“Elastic” means that cloud services such as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) or Elastic Beanstalk are flexible and can easily be increased or decreased in size when there is need for more resources or when there is no need for more resources to accommodate changing IT workloads. This is why cloud systems are very scalable, meaning you can easily scale up/down or scale out/in.
